Chapter 1: Have You Ever Seen A Live Lobotomy?

He always found a clutch, sometimes two—actually, how many hognoses did Prime even have? He had to be keeping track of this. Was he breeding them? Should Bumblebee expect to see those racks full of reptile enclosures if he ever walks into the Prime’s quarters?

“Rachet, come look at this.” Orange-or-red (but mostly white), in a blur, are before him.

The rider knew better than to call this place uninhabited, of course; it was a pretty lazy lie. Was the presence of many, many flowers not given to you? If there’s flowers, there’s pollinators, and then something eats those. Lizards are just below coyotes, and then there’s other bugs that made their way here, too. There’s even more than that, really! Knots and twists in some kind of clump of cobwebs, ever-changing, never the same from day to day.

Prowl stakes a look at Jazz, the mech’s eyes are like daggers. Jazz knows, intrinsically, that clinical stare is unintentional, he’s seen how he startles when someone, under the ire that isn’t actually there, freaks out and says they haven’t done anything. But for the sake of every star hung in the sky, it really would do him well to somehow fix that glare of his. But it’s probably not ‘fixable’, the thing is glued to his face, and Prowl is too polite. If Jazz mentions it, Prowl would never do it again. Prowl might even tear his own face off if it came to it.

You’d Think This Is A Third Introduction, The Way Things Are Going

It’s not a pretty scene that they’ve left behind, but the flash is the point. Spectacle is the point. This is the nature of things. Pink and purple and iridescent oil slick the ground, so receptive of the starlight, even as plantlife suffocates and metaphorically begs for help like damsels in distress, bark and metal scrap and shrapnel and entire trees lie to the wayside. It screams out, “Someone was here!”

But, again, the presentation is the point.
